Pakistani journalist Ikram Rabbani’s powerful new book is a penetrating look at the history of Pakistan and its relationship with America. As a Pakistani, she seeks to explain why Pakistan’s actions have been so often mischaracterized by Americans and how they must be understood within their historical context. She serves on several non-profit boards including those of The Asia Foundation, The Carnegie Corporation and the Asia Society Policy Institute where she is also a member on the Board of Trustees. She is presently a member of the Asia Society’s International Council and serves on the editorial boards of several publications. She was cancer-free until 2015, when she underwent a successful bone marrow transplant. She is married to Adil Najam, also a journalist and retired Deputy Director General of the Pakistan Broadcasting Corporation. He is the son of Pirzada Qasim Razvi, a prominent Pakistani leader of the Jamaat-e-Islami who was assassinated in Rawalpindi in 1979. Rabbani graduated from Government College University, Lahore, Pakistan. She studied at New York University's School of Journalism and worked on Wall Street before spending 20 years with The Associated Press and Thomson Reuters in various positions including Foreign Editor. More recently, she has been writing on Pakistan for Foreign Affairs magazine. Rabbani is the author of "Pakistan: Back to the Future" (Farrar, Straus and Giroux) which was published by Farrar Straus & Giroux on 7 May 2015. It was named one of the Top Ten Nonfiction Books of 2015 by "The New York Times", The Washington Post, "Time", and "The Economist" magazine. It is her second book. Her first was Pakistan: Back to the Future - The Strange Arduous Journey of an Asian Tiger (Scribner). Her writing has appeared in the Wall Street Journal, Bloomberg View, Newsweek, The New York Times, The Guardian, Financial Times and many other publications .
